Launch of First Anti-GBV One-Stop-Shop, Misoro Village | July 2015
Gender Based Violence is rampant in Zambia, specifically in rural communities. This has inspired Women for Change to work towards resolving this issue. In July of this year, Women for Change with help from United Nations, Irish Aid, and a few others, has opened up a Anti-GBV One-Stop-Shop. The One-Stop-Shops are equipped with paralegals, counselors, and staff that are trained in processing and preserving evidence. Women for Change bases itself in a community for a five day workshop to train community members that will form the staff for these shops, to ensure that it is self-sustaining. Misoro was the first of these shops.
SRH Training in Chongwe Area | June 2015
Women for Change conducted training of community members from surrounding villages of Chongwe in Sexual Reproductive Health. Women for Change management conducted a monitoring visit and Executive Director Lumba Siyanga took time to explain how gender equality and sexual reproductive health are intertwined. She explained about how the choice for a girl to get married may not be her own but would expose her to child-bearing even though her body may not be ready thus exposing her to such medical conditions as fistula. She also took time to comfort one woman who emotionally raised concern about loosing four male babies while all her three female babies were alive and growing well. The delegation comprised Women for Change M&E Manager Shadrick Chembe and Information and Advocacy Officer Jane Chirwa. The workshop also had presentations from three medical personnel whom the community members asked so many question prompting the WfC Executive Director to state that interaction of Communities and the medical personnel was vital and should be enhanced.
Capacity building in Gender and Human Rights | April 25-30, 2015
Women for change staffer, Harriet Sichone travelled to Kapiri Mposhi to undertake capacity building in Gender and Human Rights.
The workshop attracted over 20 participants comprising adults and youths. The workshop organizer took special care to ensure representation of both genders.
The participants of the workshop in turn will undertake training on the same topics in their communities. Women for Change believes that sustainability of actions and improvement in gender equality, human rights and sustainable development can only be achieved if the community are part and parcel of the development of their communities and their own drivers of change.

SADC Traditional Leaders' Conference | March 12 & 13, 2015
This conference was held as work towards ending Child Marriages. The leaders were from Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. All leaders signed a Declaration to end the vice.
Chamulimba and Machilele Meeting | February 12, 2015
Meeting was held by Women for Change and RTI to discuss several issues bordering on governance, which the residents candidly discussed with the team.
Study Groups | February 2015
Selected Women for Change (WfC) staff underwent training in Study Circles at We Effect in Lusaka. Study circles are groups of 7 to 16 persons and their objective is to identify and address problems or challenges in their communities through concerted effort and in an informed and participatory manner.
Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Children's Rights Workshops | January 12-16 2014
Field Animators Harriet Sichone and Alfred went out and trained 30 rural based youths in Gender, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights as well as Child Rights. This took place in the Chongwe District. The youths that were trained are to become Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) and will conduct training in 50 target communities: in the Chamulimba and Mwachilele areas. Harriet says the TOTs are from Women for Change area associations and they rolled out training based on what they had learned. Area had been chosen because of high gender inequality, poverty levels and challenges in children's rights.

Teen Vision Conference | August 8, 2013
The 2013 Teen Vision Conference was held in Lusaka. The theme: Against All Odds, seeking to empower young people to break through the various challenges they face in society such as employment, lack of academic support, lack of business support, HIV and AIDS, and poverty in general.
We believe that exposing the youth to opportunities that exist outside of their rural communities can inspire them to set goals and work towards a better life.
Zamtel provided Women for Change with 20,000ZMK, enabling us to transport and accommodate 100 rural youths from 5 provinces to the Teen Vision Conference.

International Delegates Visit Women for Change Operation Area of Mumbwa | April 25, 2013
Women for Change in partnership with its operation area Mumbwa District Development Association hosted international cooperating partners at the Mumbwa Development Centre. According to then Women for Change Executive Director, Mrs. Emily Sikazwe: " The delegates are coming to learn about what is being done by Women for Change to promote women's empowerment in rural communities. It is an opportunity for the organisation to share with the distinguished delegates how the promotion of gender equality is helping to develop rural communities in Zambia."
Members of Women for Change and the Mumbwa Area Association were on hand to showcase to the visiting delegates the important role gender has played in raising the profile of women in communities and how women and girls have been socially and economically empowered to work as equal partners with men and boys. The event was characterized by various activities which include theater and drama as well as a display of various economic activities done in the communities as a result of Women for Change support.
The delegates' visit is under the theme Women's Representation in Leadership and Decision Making defined into three sub themes which focused on how women and men work together in the community; how economic empowerment has furthered women's participation and decision making within communities and in the political sphere; and how skills and capacity building is advancing women's decision making in the home and the community.
